BurnRate App Quick Start Guide

TL;DR: open the comparison page, choose a scenario, scan the timeline and outcome summary, then use the sidebar sliders to stress the assumptions.


Getting Started

  • Open the BurnRate scenario comparison page.
  • Pick one of the three scenario cards to open the full-year projection.
  • Keep the comparison page and one or two scenario detail pages open in separate tabs if you want side-by-side review.

The Three Scenarios

  1. Baseline: no trust restructuring. Person A continues supporting C3 in the Legacy Condo unsustainably, available liquidity is used directly, and the household remains exposed to later care-cost drawdown.
  2. No Trust Buffer: liquidity and leverage are used to create more short-term flexibility, but the assets still remain exposed outside the protection trust structure.
  3. Asset Protection: the trust-based path, where MAPT and SNT structure, timing, and optimizer behavior work together to protect stability under high care costs.

Detail View

  • The detail page shows the full projection year by year.
  • The top summary highlights solvency, depletion risk, and major planning outcomes.
  • The sticky timeline and annotations show when care transitions, trust actions, and withdrawals activate.

Sidebar Controls

  • Use the parameter sidebar on the right to change assumptions.
  • Important controls include:
    • LTC trigger year
    • memory care start year
    • year of passing
    • condo value
    • mortgage amount and split
    • optimizer enabled

How To Read Results

  • Focus first on depletion year, real-estate liquidation risk, and final trust balances.
  • Then compare how the same change affects Baseline, Rental Buffer, and Asset Protection.
  • Use the debug sidebar for per-year mechanics when something looks surprising.

Current Demo Read

  • In the current genericized demo state, Baseline and No Trust Buffer both end in visible depletion risk.
  • Asset Protection is the only path that preserves a protected-trust outcome through the end of the projection.

Practical Tip

  • Change one variable at a time.
  • If multiple outcomes move at once, return the slider to baseline and isolate the next assumption.
